Constantia and the Higgo family

Constantia farm is a family owned and operated business. The first cherries were planted on Constantia Farm in 1953 by Kempen Higgo snr. These initial few trees has over the last 2 generations been nurtured and grown to vast orchards generating a large annual harvest of cherries. At the end of 1981 Kempen’s son Gerrit join his dad and they farmed together until Kempen’s death in 2012.

Today Constantia cherries is a well recognised brand on South-Africa’s supermarket shelves.

Constantia currently supply cherries to many South African chain stores and also export fresh cherries to a number of overseas markets.

Nursery
Constantia farm has its own nursery and supply cherry trees over the country to many farmers.

Packing Facilities
Constantia has large packing facilities to handle the seasonal cherry rush.

Cherries are hydro-cooled to make sure that the quality of cherries is excellent before it is distributed to the markets.

Factory
Constantia has a factory on the farm where a wide range of exclusive Cherry products are manufactured.

We specialise in cherry liqueur, exclusive cream cherry liqueur, cherry jam, cherry ice cream topping,100% cherry juice and many more.

The cherry season is from end October to the first week of December. Book yourself a tour to visit the packing shed and experience the picking, hydro-cooling, sorting and packaging of fresh cherries for the markets.

Visit the tasting room and shop in the old horse stables, learn more about cherry growing and interesting facts abut cherries. Then relax on the trailer built for your comfort, while driving through the orchards feeling the freshness of mountain air.

Pre-arranged picnics in the orchard will let you experience the farm in all its glory .The deli on the farm will quench the thirst and satisfy your appetite.
